Factor XIII in severe sepsis and septic shock

Sepsis patients exhibit reduced levels of Factor XIII (FXIII) antigen and activity, but a higher specific activity (SA(FXIII)). This increased SA(FXIII) is linked to greater disease severity and fatality in sepsis.
