Negative pressure wound therapy in burns: a prospective, randomized-controlled trial.

Background:

  • Topical Negative Pressure (TNP) therapy is a standard wound management technique.
  • TNP application in hand and finger wounds is challenging due to sealing difficulties, especially near interdigital folds.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of TNP therapy for extensive hand wounds.
  • To present a modified surgical gloving technique for optimizing TNP sealing in interdigital areas.

Main Methods:

  • A 36-month study treated 9 extensive open hand wounds using TNP.
  • Methods included sterile vinyl gloves, split V.A.C. gel-straps, and the "Sandwich"-principle for sealing.

  • Tight vacuum sealing was achieved in all cases using modified surgical gloves for interdigital spaces.
