Context:

  • Investigating patient preferences for delivery methods is crucial for informed decision-making.
  • Understanding factors influencing cesarean delivery preference is essential for obstetric care.
  • This study focuses on pregnant women without medical complications, isolating psychosocial and socioeconomic influences.

Purpose:

  • To identify sociodemographic and obstetric factors associated with a preference for cesarean delivery among pregnant women without medical complications.
  • To analyze the relationship between previous delivery experiences, income, and the desire for cesarean birth.

Summary:

  • A cross-sectional study of 156 pregnant women revealed that 42.9% had low motivation for vaginal delivery.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Multivariate analysis indicated that a previous vaginal birth significantly decreased the likelihood of choosing cesarean delivery (ORadj=0.04).
  • Higher husband's monthly income (>$750 reais) was associated with an increased preference for cesarean delivery (ORadj=3.44).
  • Impact:

    • Findings highlight the importance of considering patient history and socioeconomic factors in discussions about delivery preferences.
    • Results can inform counseling strategies to address motivations for cesarean delivery.
    • Understanding these influences can contribute to more patient-centered obstetric care and potentially reduce unnecessary cesarean rates.
