The PRDM1 protein is crucial for plasma cell differentiation. While often positive in B-cell lymphomas, its unexpected expression in some diffuse large B-cell lymphomas correlates with aggressive behavior and poorer survival.

    • PRDM1 is a marker for plasmablastic differentiation in B-cell neoplasms.
    • Unexpected PRDM1 expression in certain diffuse large B-cell lymphomas, co-expressing BCL-6 and MUM1/IRF4, indicates incomplete plasmacytic differentiation and is associated with aggressive behavior and reduced failure-free survival.
    • PRDM1 expression alone is insufficient to induce a full plasma cell differentiation program in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
