Clinical implications of basic neuroscience research. II: NMDA receptors and neurotrophic factors
1Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, University of Michigan School of Medicine, Ann Arbor.
Abstract:
The clinical implications of two areas of basic neuroscience research are described in this review paper. These areas include the identification of glutamate receptors on central neurons and their involvement in brain injury, and the role of nerve growth factor in the development and treatment of Alzheimer disease.

Enzyme-linked Receptors
Neurotrophin (NT) receptors are a family of RTKs, including trkA, trkB, and trkC (tropomyosin-related kinase) receptors. TrkA is specific for nerve growth factor (NGF), neurotrophin-6, and neurotrophin-7. TrkB binds...
