Intestinal 5-hydroxytryptamine and mast cell infiltration in rat experimental colitis

Summary

Inflammation in rat colons increased serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine) and mast cells. Dexamethasone reduced inflammation but not serotonin in the colon, suggesting mast cells drive serotonin changes in inflammatory bowel disease.
