Bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy (BSO) for average-risk women shows a low rate of primary peritoneal carcinomatosis (PPC). This surgery also appears to reduce breast cancer incidence in this population.

- The risk of post-oophorectomy PPC in an average-risk population is low.
- BSO may be associated with a reduced incidence of breast cancer in average-risk women.
