Orthopadie (Heidelberg, Germany)·2026

Area of Science:

  • Orthopedic surgery
  • Human anatomy

Background:

  • Knee pain is a common complaint.
  • Medial knee pain can arise from various structures.

Observation:

  • Arthroscopic examination of a 34-year-old male with medial right knee pain.
  • Visualization of the popliteus tendon during arthroscopy.

Findings:

  • The popliteus tendon exhibited a three-bundle structure.
  • This three-bundle appearance is identified as a normal anatomical variant.

Implications:

  • The three-bundle popliteus tendon variant has no known clinical significance.
  • This finding can aid in accurate diagnosis and prevent misinterpretation of imaging or surgical findings.
