Summary

Thyroidectomy is an effective treatment for hyperthyroid cats, with uncommon complications when performed by experienced surgeons. Ectopic hyperplastic thyroid tissue (EHTT) significantly increases recurrence risk, making preoperative scintigraphy advisable.
