Area of Science:

  • Orthodontics
  • Dental Mechanics

Background:

  • Class II malocclusion with anterior open bite presents complex treatment challenges.
  • Traditional posterior intrusion methods may cause undesirable side effects like labial flaring.

Observation:

  • A novel posterior intrusion appliance utilizing zygomatic anchorage was fabricated and applied.
  • A 14-year-old female patient with Class II malocclusion and anterior open bite was treated.

Findings:

  • The appliance achieved en masse posterior segment impaction (3.6 mm) without labial flaring.
  • A Class I canine and molar relationship was established, correcting the anterior open bite.
  • A 4-degree counterclockwise autorotation of the mandibular plane was observed.

Implications:

Related Experiment Videos

  • Zygomatic anchorage offers an effective solution for molar intrusion and anchorage control.
  • This technique shows promise for treating complex malocclusions, including anterior open bites.
  • Further clinical research with larger cohorts is recommended to validate these findings.
