Genetic variations in dopamine-regulating enzymes monoamine oxidase A (MAOA) and monoamine oxidase B (MAOB) are linked to increased obesity risk. Low-activity genotypes in these genes suggest a significant genetic influence on body mass index (BMI) and weight.
