[The theory of subjective space]

Subjective space is the space which develops around the subject's own body in relation to the capacities of the various receptors. As opposed to the reductionist interpretation founded exclusively on the physical properties of receptors, the theory of subjective space, as announced in Sherrington's work, makes it possible to formulate a phenomenological interpretation of sensorimotor coordinations. Confronting the spatio-temporal properties of the various perceptual fields, the theory allows in turn to define the conditions of a hermeneutic analysis of the act and of the genesis of the object. As such, it adds some precisions to the general theory of subjectivity as outlined by Straus, Buytendijk and a few other theorists who stressed the role of phenomenology in the founding of a adequate biology of human conduct.
