A method for transcervical embryo collection in the pig.

Summary

A new surgical method allows for transcervical collection of pig embryos after shortening uterine horns. This technique successfully recovered an average of 3.6 embryos per sow, demonstrating its viability in swine reproduction.

Background:

Surgical procedures for in vivo embryo collection in swine are critical for reproductive technologies.
Existing methods may have limitations in efficiency or invasiveness.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate a novel surgical procedure for in vivo transcervical pig embryo collection.
To assess the efficacy of uterine horn shortening in facilitating embryo recovery.

Main Methods:

Five cyclic, primiparous sows underwent uterine horn shortening surgery.
Post-surgery, sows were artificially inseminated.
Transcervical uterine flushing was performed to collect embryos.
