Summary

Parathyroid hormone (PTH) and stanniocalcin (STC) are found in the brains of diverse species, suggesting they may have evolved as ancestral neuropeptides. This study detected these hormones in both vertebrates and invertebrates, challenging traditional endocrine gland origins.
