Background:
CT colonography is a new method for the detection of colorectal cancer and polyps.
Material And Methods:
The article is based upon a review of the literature in PubMed (1994-2005) for CT colonography, as well as the authors' own experience.
Results:
The seven largest publications show 55-94% sensitivity and 92-98% specificity for polyps > or = 10 mm. Compared to conventional CT examinations, the method has different requirements for patient preparation and technique. Our own experience so far is limited, but promising.
Interpretation:
CT colonography seems to be a good alternative to the barium enema examination and a suitable supplement to incomplete colonoscopy. Hands-on training of radiologists is required before optimal results can be obtained.
