Background:

  • A 78-year-old male with multiple comorbidities presented with symptoms leading to a dermatomyositis diagnosis.
  • Cardiac examination revealed atrial fibrillation, left anterior hemiblock, and restrictive cardiomyopathy.

Findings:

  • This is the first reported case linking dermatomyositis and restrictive cardiomyopathy.
  • Muscle biopsy confirmed dermatomyositis, and cardiac investigations ruled out other causes of restrictive cardiomyopathy.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the importance of considering restrictive cardiomyopathy in patients diagnosed with dermatomyositis.
  • Comprehensive cardiological assessment is recommended upon neurological diagnosis of dermatomyositis to identify potential cardiac involvement early.
