Area of Science:

  • Ophthalmology
  • Corneal Surgery
  • Ocular Pathology

Background:

  • Corneoscleral cysts are uncommon clinical findings.
  • Spontaneous corneoscleral hematic cysts represent a rare subtype.
  • Understanding their presentation and management is crucial for ophthalmologists.

Observation:

  • A case of a spontaneous corneoscleral hematic cyst is presented.
  • The cyst occurred without apparent preceding trauma or cause.
  • Clinical observation focused on the cyst's characteristics and impact on vision.

Findings:

  • Surgical excision of the corneoscleral hematic cyst was performed.
  • A lamellar corneal patch graft was utilized for reconstruction.
  • Histopathological analysis confirmed the nature of the cyst.

Implications:

  • This case highlights successful surgical intervention for a rare ocular cyst.
  • Lamellar corneal grafting provides a viable reconstructive option.
  • Long-term follow-up demonstrated the durability of the surgical outcome, with no recurrence over six years.
