Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy and safety of ACL reconstruction in older adult patients (49-64 years).
  • To assess functional outcomes and patient satisfaction following ACL reconstruction in this age group.

Main Methods:

  • A retrospective review of 23 patients (average age 54) undergoing ACL reconstruction with allograft.
  • Patients were assessed using Lysholm score, visual analog scale, satisfaction ratings, physical examination, KT-1000 testing, and radiographs.
  • Follow-up averaged 24 months post-surgery.

Main Results:

  • 16 of 19 patients returned to acceptable activity levels.
  • Mean Lysholm score was 92, satisfaction 100%, and KT-1000 laxity averaged 2mm.
  • 15 patients reported excellent or good outcomes; 4 had fair/poor results, 3 with significant arthrosis.

  • ACL reconstruction using allograft is a safe and minimally invasive option for patients aged 49-64 with minimal arthrosis.

  • Pre-existing moderate to severe knee arthrosis may negatively impact outcomes.
