Summary
Supernumerary teeth, particularly mesiodens, are common in the jaw and can impact permanent teeth eruption. Early extraction of these extra teeth can facilitate normal tooth alignment.

Background:
- Supernumerary teeth, or hyperdontia, occur in 0.5-3.8% of permanent dentition.
- While often linked to genetic syndromes, they can also appear in healthy individuals.
Purpose of the Study:
- To determine the distribution of supernumerary teeth in patients treated at an oral surgery clinic.
- To analyze the prevalence, location, morphology, and type of supernumerary teeth.

- Retrospective analysis of 36,057 patient records from 1991-2003.

- 102 patients with 147 supernumerary teeth were included in the final study.

Conclusions:
- Mesiodens frequently cause permanent incisor impaction, often resolving after extraction.
- Supernumerary premolars are typically asymptomatic and discovered incidentally.
