Graves' disease with severe iodine allergy: successful surgery after lithium carbonate treatment. Case report

A patient with Graves' disease could not receive conventional antithyroid drugs or beta blocking agents because of severe allergy to these drugs and to iodine. Surgery was performed when the thyroid function had been normalized with lithium carbonate. The postoperative course was uneventful.
