Summary

Visceral fat measurements from CT colonography did not significantly predict large colorectal polyps in this pilot study. However, elevated odds ratios suggest further research with larger cohorts may be warranted.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the association between visceral fat and colorectal polyps.
  • To determine if visceral fat measurements at CT colonography can predict polyp presence.

  • A pilot study compared 25 cases with large colorectal adenomas to 25 controls with normal colons.
  • Visceral fat area was quantified at three abdominal levels using CT colonography data.
