Abstract:
Advances in pharmaceutical technology innovation have resulted in the development of novel pharmaceutical dosage forms designed to optimize the dosage, reduce the frequency of dosing and enhance the compliance to the pharmacological treatment. The controlled drug delivery systems presents advantages and disadvantages with respect to the immediate release drug products that should be considered when prescribing. The purpose of the present work is to review the main concepts in pharmaceutical technology with respect to modified release drug products and to present some examples of drugs that are incorporated in these types of dosage forms that act at the central nervous system.
