[The manufacture and application of compound cast post-core in maxillary molars]

Purpose:
To investigate the clinical results of compound cast post-core in maxillary molars.
Methods:
Compound cast post-core was used to repair maxillary molars which had wide defects in crowns and had difficulty in finding the common insert path.
Results:
Compound cast post-cores were used in 32 patients for 35 teeth. Full crown or fixed bridge were then fabricated. There was no post-core lost during a follow up of 1 to 5 years.
Conclusions:
Compound casting post-core not only solved the problem of making cast post-core in complex maxillary molars, but also improved the retention of these post-cores and strengthened the restorations by using the undercut area of the teeth.
