Summary

Cholecystokinin (CCK), a peptide neurotransmitter, is abundant in the mammalian brain, particularly in the cerebral cortex, amygdala, and hippocampus. CCK-8S, the most common form, exhibits excitatory actions on neurons and binds to specific CCK receptors.
