Summary

This study presents a rare case of primary gastric melanoma in the stomach antrum. Further research is needed to establish diagnostic criteria for these uncommon gastrointestinal melanomas.

Background:

Melanoma is a rare malignancy, with cutaneous melanoma being the most common type.
Gastrointestinal (GI) tract melanomas are uncommon, and distinguishing primary from secondary lesions can be challenging.
Primary gastric melanoma is exceptionally rare, with only a few cases documented.

Observation:

A case of a man with an ulcerated sub-mucosal mass in the stomach antrum is described.
Symptoms included upper abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, and anemia.
Histological examination confirmed the lesion as melanoma.

Findings:

Extensive clinical and laboratory investigations ruled out a primary melanoma elsewhere in the body.
This represents the fourth reported case of primary gastric melanoma globally.
