1South Birmingham Primary Care Trust, Birmingham. pamela.truman@sbpct.nhs.uk
Abstract:
This article discusses the problems associated with alcohol misuse, including increased mortality and morbidity. It identifies the population groups most at risk and suggests that health improvement planning and a high-profile promotion campaign are required to raise public awareness and initiate appropriate interventions. Nurses in primary care are well placed to develop, implement and evaluate alcohol misuse reduction strategies.
