Summary

Distance stereoacuity in children with intermittent exotropia can be normal, but many show absent or normal responses, not reduced, on the Frisby Davis Distance stereo test (FD2). This suggests intermittent exotropia may not always correlate with reduced stereoacuity.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate distance stereoacuity in children with intermittent exotropia using the Frisby Davis Distance stereo test (FD2).
  • To determine if distance stereoacuity levels correlate with the control of intermittent exotropia.

  • A longitudinal study involving 110 children diagnosed with intermittent exotropia.

    • Patients with intermittent exotropia can achieve normal distance stereoacuity.
    • A significant proportion showed absent or normal, rather than reduced, stereoacuity, suggesting the FD2 may categorize stereoacuity as binary (normal/absent) in this population.
