    Area of Science:

    • Cardiology
    • Pediatric Cardiology
    • Cardiac Surgery

    Background:

    • Atrial fibrillation in infants is rare and requires thorough investigation.
    • Congenital heart anomalies can manifest with arrhythmias and cardiac enlargement.

    Observation:

    • A 15-month-old boy presented with atrial fibrillation and cardiomegaly on chest radiography.
    • Echocardiography identified a large, cyst-like right atrial aneurysm.

    Findings:

    • Surgical reduction of the right atrial aneurysm restored normal sinus rhythm.
    • Histopathology revealed idiopathic dilatation of the right atrium with fibrosis, excluding inflammation.

    Implications:

    • Surgical management of giant right atrial aneurysms can effectively treat pediatric atrial fibrillation.
    • This intervention mitigates risks of thrombus formation and recurrent atrial arrhythmias in affected children.
