Area of Science:

  • Pain Medicine
  • Orthopedics
  • Rheumatology

Background:

  • The sacroiliac joint is a recognized source of low back and buttock pain.
  • Previous diagnostic methods relied on empirical evidence and successful treatment outcomes, leading to potentially flawed conclusions.
  • Lack of robust data hindered accurate diagnosis and understanding of sacroiliac joint syndrome.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To review current concepts regarding sacroiliac joint pain.
  • To present updated information supplanting previous notions about the disorder.
  • To highlight the impact of new diagnostic techniques on understanding sacroiliac joint syndrome.

Main Methods:

  • Systematic utilization of fluoroscopically guided diagnostic sacroiliac joint blockade.

Related Experiment Videos

  • Derivation of specific epidemiologic, symptomatic, examination, and outcome data.
  • Review of existing literature and clinical concepts.
  • Main Results:

    • Fluoroscopically guided diagnostic blockade provides specific data for sacroiliac joint disorders.
    • This method allows for more accurate epidemiologic, symptomatic, and diagnostic assessments.
    • Updated data challenges and refines previously held concepts about sacroiliac joint syndrome.

    Conclusions:

    • Fluoroscopically guided diagnostic sacroiliac joint blockade is crucial for accurate diagnosis.
    • Current evidence refines our understanding of sacroiliac joint pain etiology and management.
    • This approach offers a more reliable basis for diagnosing and treating sacroiliac joint syndrome.
