Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the expression patterns of TCR beta and alpha beta subunits in various T-cell neoplasms.
  • To determine the relationship between TCR beta expression and CD1 expression in immature T-cells.
  • To evaluate the utility of specific monoclonal antibodies (beta F1, delta TCS1, WT31) for detecting TCR subunits in T-cell malignancies.

    Conclusions:

    • TCR beta subunit expression is an early event in T-cell differentiation, preceding or coinciding with CD1 expression.
    • TCR beta is primarily found in the cytoplasm of T-cells, while TCR alpha beta is a surface marker.
    • The WT31 antibody may have limited utility for detecting TCR alpha beta on T-cell neoplasms in frozen sections.
