Background:

  • Symptoms include prolonged, unilateral, migrainous neurological deficits.
  • Transient, dramatic cortical gadolinium enhancement is observed in the affected hemisphere.

  • SMART syndrome may be punctuated by generalized seizures and ipsilateral EEG slowing.
  • Neurological symptoms can persist for weeks.
  • Full neurological recovery is characteristic of the syndrome.
