Area of Science:

  • Pulmonology
  • Immunology
  • Radiology

Background:

  • Pulmonary eosinophilia is a group of lung diseases characterized by the accumulation of eosinophils in the lungs.
  • Chronic pulmonary eosinophilia frequently affects middle-aged females.

Observation:

  • A patient presented with subacute dyspnea and significant weight loss.
  • Elevated peripheral eosinophil counts were noted.
  • Imaging revealed pulmonary infiltrates.

Findings:

  • Pulmonary eosinophilia demonstrates a rapid response to corticosteroid therapy.
  • The patient experienced complete resolution of pulmonary infiltrates following steroid treatment.

Implications:

  • Corticosteroids are a highly effective treatment for pulmonary eosinophilia.
