Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of cryoplasty in patients with iliofemoral arterial restenosis.
  • To assess the long-term outcomes of cryoplasty for restenotic lesions after conventional endovascular treatment.

Main Methods:

  • A prospective follow-up study involving 10 patients with iliofemoral restenosis.
  • Twelve cryoplasty procedures were performed on patients with prior endovascular treatment and subsequent restenosis.
  • Doppler ultrasound was used for evaluation at 1, 3, 6, and 12 months post-procedure.

Main Results:

  • Immediate angiographic success was achieved in all procedures (<30% residual stenosis).
  • Fifty percent of procedures experienced restenosis within six months, with the remainder developing progressive restenosis between 6-12 months.
  • Five procedures required re-intervention, and one patient is awaiting surgery due to symptomatic restenosis.

Conclusions:

  • Cryoplasty demonstrates limited value for treating restenosis in the iliofemoral arterial segment.
  • High rates of restenosis and need for re-intervention suggest cryoplasty is not a viable option for these lesions.
  • Current evidence does not support the use of cryoplasty for peripheral arterial restenotic lesions.
