Summary
Osteosarcoma of the jaw (JOS) is a rare, aggressive tumor. Radical surgery is the preferred treatment, though chemotherapy may offer temporary palliation for advanced cases.

Background:
- Osteosarcoma of the jaw (JOS) is a locally aggressive malignant mesenchymal tumor, distinct from skeletal osteosarcoma (SOS) in its behavior.
- JOS accounts for 5-13% of all osteosarcoma cases and exhibits a high propensity for local recurrence.
- JOS metastasizes less frequently and later than SOS.
Observation:
- A 60-year-old male presented with a maxillary alveolar ridge tumor initially diagnosed as granulation tissue.
- Post-resection and referral, the final diagnosis was high-grade chondroblastic osteosarcoma.
- The patient declined radical resection due to cosmetic concerns.
Findings:
- Chemotherapy was initiated for diffuse lung metastases, showing only temporary disease progression delay.
- The patient ultimately succumbed to respiratory insufficiency.
Implications:
- Radical surgical resection is the primary therapeutic approach for JOS.
- Consultation with a bone tumor reference center is crucial for diagnosis confirmation and case registration.
