Summary

A rare sign of unknown cancer, acral metastases on toes often mimic infection, delaying diagnosis. This case highlights a toe metastasis as the initial indicator of an undiagnosed lung tumor.

Background:

  • Clinical presentation often leads to misdiagnosis as infectious or inflammatory conditions, delaying definitive diagnosis.

Observation:

  • Metastases on digits are infrequently encountered.
  • Fingertip metastases are most commonly linked to lung carcinoma.
  • Toes metastases are typically associated with genitourinary tract malignancies.

Findings:

  • Histologically, acrometastases often exhibit less differentiation than the primary tumor.
  • Osseous involvement frequently precedes cutaneous manifestation in acrometastases.
