This study reports the first known case of a gastric tumor collision between a gastrointestinal stromal tumor and angiosarcoma. This rare dual diagnosis highlights unique challenges in gastric cancer pathology and treatment.

Background:

  • Collision tumors involving the stomach are exceptionally rare.
  • Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) and angiosarcomas are distinct malignant neoplasms.
  • No prior reports exist of a collision between GIST and angiosarcoma in the gastric setting.

Observation:

  • An 81-year-old male presented with dyspepsia and a large gastric mass.
  • Histopathological examination revealed a biphasic tumor.
  • The predominant component showed spindle cells positive for CD117 (c-kit), consistent with GIST.

Findings:

  • The tumor exhibited distinct areas of gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) and angiosarcoma.
  • Angiosarcoma components displayed malignant spindle cells within vascular channels, positive for vascular markers and focally for CD117.
