Summary

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) levels were similar in borderline personality disorder patients and controls. However, lower CSF 5-HIAA in patients correlated with genuine suicide attempts, not other impulsive behaviors.
