Moderate consumption of polyphenol-rich alcoholic beverages like red wine, brandy, and rum can reduce inflammation markers. This study found they prevent increased NF-kappaB activation and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 release during a fat-enriched diet.

    • These polyphenol-rich beverages also led to a decrease in MCP-1 release.

    Conclusions:

    • Moderate intake of alcoholic beverages rich in polyphenols can attenuate inflammatory responses.
    • Consumption of red wine, brandy, and rum may reduce NF-kappaB activation and MCP-1 levels during a high-fat diet.
    • These findings support the anti-inflammatory effects of moderate alcohol consumption and its potential role in reducing cardiovascular mortality.
