[Degenerative disorders of the skeleton in elderly]
1Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Occupational and Environmental Health.
Abstract:
Skeletal degeneration such as osteoporosis and osteoarthritis increases morbidity and mortality of aged persons. It is associated with inflammation induced by micro particles from bone and cartilage matrices and reduction in bone quality that could be due to disturbance of regulatory function of bone mass and structure in response to mechanical loading. Deformity in the skeletons induced by osteoporosis and osteoarthritis is irreversible and accumulating. To establish the substantial methods to alleviate it, we need to know the effects of gonad hormone deficiency underlying in the diseases.

Bone Disorders
Bone deposition is also affected by the levels of sex hormones like estrogen and testosterone that promote osteoblast activity and bone matrix synthesis. When the level of these hormones decreases due to aging, it causes a reduction in bone deposition. As a result, bone resorption by osteoclasts...

Musculoskeletal disorders
Musculoskeletal disorders involve injuries and conditions affecting the skeletal muscles and associated connective tissues. These disorders can arise from acute biomechanical stresses or chronic overuse and can occur across different age groups. Common injuries include sprains, fractures, and muscular strains, often resulting from...
