Summary

This study demonstrates a minimally invasive surgical technique for gynecomastia (excessive male breast development). The transaxillary approach using a lighted retractor offers a feasible and satisfying solution, minimizing visible scarring.

Background:

Gynecomastia, characterized by excessive male breast development, is typically treated with surgery.
Minimally invasive techniques are sought to reduce scarring and improve patient satisfaction.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the feasibility and outcomes of a lighted retractor-assisted transaxillary approach for gynecomastia correction.
To assess patient satisfaction and complication rates associated with this technique.

Main Methods:

Five male patients (18-24 years) with Grade I-IIA-IIB gynecomastia underwent surgery.
A transaxillary approach utilizing a lighted retractor for direct visualization during dissection, excision, and hemostasis was employed.
Glandular tissue and adjacent fat were removed en bloc.

Main Results:

The procedure resulted in barely visible axillary scars.
All patients reported high satisfaction with the cosmetic outcome.

The lighted retractor-assisted transaxillary approach is a feasible surgical option for Grade I-IIA-IIB gynecomastia.
This technique is particularly suitable for patients desiring minimal scarring and those with a keloid formation tendency.
The method allows for concealed scarring and effective surgical management of gynecomastia.
