Abstract:
In the prehospital setting, you are most likely to encounter a PICC line, Port-A-Cath or Hickman catheter. Others exist, but your chances of seeing them in the field are rare. The basic steps outlined in this article are an introduction to using central lines. I strongly recommend a handson session with a knowledgeable instructor who is intimately familiar with the use of these devices.
