This study identifies a tomato protein, jasmonic-induced protein 21 (JIP21), initially thought to inhibit aspartic proteinases. Biochemical analysis reveals it strongly inhibits chymotrypsin, acting as a serine proteinase inhibitor and impacting insect pests.
