Microsatellite repeats in estrogen receptor genes (ESRalpha and ESRbeta) show evolutionary changes across great apes and gibbons. Dinucleotide expansions in ESRalpha occurred in chimpanzee and bonobo ancestors, while ESRbeta repeats are highly complex in apes.
