Summary

Multiple arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) in the brain can be treated similarly to single AVMs. Surgical removal of deep-seated AVMs using precise dissection and coagulation techniques is effective, minimizing neurological deficits.

Background:

  • Intracerebral arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are complex vascular lesions.
  • Multiple AVMs present unique diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.

Observation:

  • A case study of a 23-year-old male with two distinct, deep-seated intracerebral AVMs is presented.
  • One AVM was located in the left basal ganglia and had a history of hemorrhage; the second was in the splenium.

Findings:

  • Both AVMs were surgically removed separately.
  • The patient experienced a satisfactory recovery with only mild dysphasia.
  • The therapeutic principles for multiple AVMs are consistent with those for solitary AVMs.

Implications:

  • Multiplicity of AVMs does not preclude surgical intervention.
