Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess the efficacy of cytology in evaluating the endocervical canal immediately after loop excision.
  • To compare the diagnostic performance of cytology with histology.
  • To determine the cost-effectiveness of using cytology.

Main Methods:

  • 103 patients underwent cytologic smear and endocervical curettage post-loop excision.
  • Diagnoses were made independently by two cytopathologists and compared to histology.
  • Statistical analysis was performed to evaluate diagnostic agreement.

  • Cytopathologist A reported sensitivity of 1.0, specificity of 0.9, PPV of 0.44, and NPV of 1.0.
