Localized cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) can present unusually on the eyelid, causing significant visual impairment. This case report details successful treatment of extensive eyelid CL with melamine antimonite compound.

  • An elderly male presented with an extensive CL lesion covering his entire right upper eyelid.
  • The lesion severely restricted his ability to open his eye, impacting vision.
  • This case represents a rare instance of CL affecting the ocular region.

Findings:

  • The patient received treatment with a melamine antimonite compound.
  • Complete resolution of the cutaneous leishmaniasis lesion was achieved.
  • Treatment duration was approximately 4 weeks.

Implications:

  • This case underscores the importance of considering CL in the differential diagnosis of eyelid lesions, even in atypical locations.
  • Melamine antimonite compounds demonstrate efficacy in treating rare, extensive presentations of cutaneous leishmaniasis.
  • Further research into the management of ocular CL may be warranted to optimize patient outcomes.
