Summary

Radiation can induce meningiomas, tumors arising from arachnoid cells, years after treatment. This case highlights a 50-year-old man who developed a radiation-induced meningioma 20 years post-oligodendroglioma therapy.

The meningioma appeared 20 years after treatment for an oligodendroglioma.
The prior treatment involved both surgery and radiation therapy.

Findings:

The patient's meningioma is classified as radiation-induced.
This case supports the link between prior radiotherapy and secondary meningioma development.
Diagnostic criteria for radiation-induced meningiomas are discussed.

Implications:

Understanding the latency period of radiation-induced tumors is crucial.
This case underscores the importance of long-term surveillance in patients with a history of cranial radiation.
Further research into the mechanisms of radiation-induced oncogenesis is warranted.
