Background:

  • Macro creatine kinase (Macro-CK) is a complex of polymerized creatine kinase isoenzymes.
  • Macro-CK can interfere with diagnostic assays, leading to false elevations of CK-MB, complicating myocardial ischemia diagnosis.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the clinical significance of Macro-CK in emergency room patients.
  • To establish Macro-CK as a potential marker for specific underlying pathologies.
  • To provide recommendations for managing Macro-CK findings in emergency settings.

Main Methods:

  • Studied patients presenting to the emergency room over 16 months with Macro-CK.
  • Identified creatine kinase isoenzymes using agarose gel electrophoresis.
