Background:

  • The Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial (PCPT) observed an increased detection of high-grade prostate cancer in men randomized to finasteride compared to placebo.
  • Prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is a key biomarker for prostate cancer detection, but its interpretation can be affected by factors like benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

Purpose of the Study:

  • To assess if the association between larger PSA changes and high-grade prostate cancer can explain the increased detection of high-grade prostate cancer in men randomized to finasteride versus placebo in the PCPT.
