[The laboratory examination of Candida albicans]
1School of Stomatology, Beijing Medical University.
Abstract:
This study compares the laboratory methods in detecting candidas causing oral candidiasis and suggests that smear method is the main one. PAS stain is the best for diagnosis, and the potassium hydroxide method is the easiest and quickest in handling. As to those uncertained by smear method, culture should be done. For those positive on Sabouraud's medium, the germ tube test should be performed and positive results can be regarded as candida albicans. If negative the chlamydospore production as well as the carbohydrate fermentation and assimilation should be done.
